Hamiltonians for a Healthier Environment.
Ministry of the Environment, Conservation and Parks
Ontario's Ministry of the Environment, Conservation and Parks (MECP) has been protecting Ontario's environment for over 30 years.
Using stringent regulations, targeted enforcement and a variety of innovative programs and initiatives, the ministry continues to address environmental issues
that have local, regional and/or global effects.
The Ministry of the Environment, Conservation and Parks is responsible for protecting clean and safe air, land and water to ensure healthy communities, ecological protection and
sustainable development for present and future generations of Ontarians.
Air Quality Ontario - Air Quality Forecasts
An Air Quality Forecast is a prediction of the quality of the air in the future.
The Ministry wants to give Ontario residents as much notice as possible if it looks as though a smog day is on the way.
So the Ministry will issue a 3-day outlook or a smog prediction for today, tomorrow and the third day. Since smog days are tied to weather,
our meteorologists keep a close watch on short and long-range weather forecasts, and continually study air quality information concerning Ontario and
neighbouring U.S. states.
Clean Air Hamilton
Formed in 1998, Clean Air Hamilton is a multi-stakeholder group dedicated to improving air quality in Hamilton’s community.
The group is committed to improving citizens’ health and quality of life through communication and promotion of realistic,
science-based decision-making and sustainable practices.
The Hamilton Industrial Environmental Association (HIEA)
The Hamilton Industrial Environmental Association (HIEA), is a non-profit association representing local private sector industries which provides an open
forum for community representatives and local associations to discuss environmental concerns regarding their respective communities.
HIEA has a strong history of connecting with local neighbourhood association representatives and partnering with the community to fulfill HIEA’s mandate:
"to improve the local environment – air, land and water – through joint and individual activities, and by partnering with the community to enhance future
understanding of environmental issues and help establish priorities for action."
Environment Canada's mandate is to preserve and enhance the quality of the natural environment; conserve Canada's renewable resources;
conserve and protect Canada's water resources; forecast weather and environmental change; enforce rules relating to boundary waters;
and coordinate environmental policies and programs for the federal government.
